Andrew George Warkentin

As you may have noticed there are some new surroundings here at Drew Warkentin.  Since taking down my old site a few months ago, I have traveled down many design roads, scrapped many .psd templates and tortured my colleagues and wife with numerous “what do you think of this” questions in iChat and in normal everyday conversation. I’ve been in search of a site that I felt best represents me at this time and it to be honest it has been a very difficult journey.  Designing for yourself is an incredible challenge and I hope it never gets any easier.

Since being acquired by Airbag Industries LLC in December of 2007, I realized that my site was going to take on a different purpose.  My hope is that this new site will be a space for me to communicate and share more in this modern world. A world that is filling with an ever growing amount of information that requires processing.  Also, I hope this site can be a tool that will evolve with my restless evolution as a web designer and web developer and finally help me understand and express myself better as a human being.

This site represents my need for exploration, for change and experimentation.  I designed this site for me and I’m proud of that. Please continue to check in for new additions, and feel free to subscribe to my RSS Feed.  Hopefully they will improve as this site and I do.

For now I will leave you with this quote:

What is the criterion for “good” graphic design?  In a culture where we are more than ever alienated from our environment, where the ruinous mantra of “more choice” has merely given rise to a frenzied eclecticism, we need to look beyond the most recent computer package as a tool to prop up the impoverished content of a design brief. - Kerry William Purcell (Introduction to Josef Müller-Brockman)

Relationships

In December of 2007 I was acquired by Airbag Industries LLC.  It’s an exciting time for me and my work.  I am honored and proud to be part of such a talented team of web designers and developers.

Jesse Bennett-Chamberlain, the brilliant designer at 31three.  A man who’s friendship and shoulder to lean on with work and life in general has been and always will be appreciated.

In the spring of 2002 I graduated The Ontario College of Art & Design.  Thank you to all my instructors and friends for their teaching, guidance, and encouragement.  I’m an advocate of post-secondary education even if you think you know it all.  Trust me, you’re not even close!
